UV output seems low, what should I check first?
Work through the five likely causes in order: intensity set too low, tip too far from the part, a dirty lens, an adhesive whose spectral needs don't match the LED wavelength, and finally aged or defective LEDs.
Curing is slow, could the intensity be set too low?
Very possibly. Increase LED intensity to full power (100%) in the operating parameters and retest, the setting adjusts from 10 to 100% per channel and directly scales cure speed.
Could working distance cause weak curing?
Yes, irradiance falls quickly with distance. Move the light guide tip closer to the surface being cured; for example, a 365 nm guide with the 6 mm lens is rated at its 13 mm working distance.
Could a dirty lens be cutting my output?
Yes, deposits and condensed vapors on the lens are a classic cause of low output and slow curing. Clean the glass per the maintenance procedure (isopropyl alcohol, soft cloth) and retest.
My adhesive won't cure, wrong wavelength?
Compare the adhesive's spectral requirements from its datasheet with the LED wavelength chart in manual section 4, and check the guide types in section 5.3. If they don't overlap, switch to a better-matched guide or adhesive.

Output is still low after cleaning, now what?
The LEDs may be defective or excessively aged, the fix is replacing the LED light guide. Contact us and we'll confirm the diagnosis and quote the right replacement for your wavelength.
LED won't light but the display looks normal, why?
Four causes to check: an open emergency safety interlock, over-temperature protection (E40 on the channel), a light guide connection fault (E20 or E30), or an internal system problem requiring factory service.
Nothing fires, could the interlock be open?
Yes, if the EMER circuit between terminals 11 and 12 is open, exposure stops on all channels. Verify the jumper (or your E-stop/guard switch wiring) is present and making contact.
What does the E40 fault code mean?
E40 is an overheat fault, over-temperature protection has shut the channel down. Let the unit cool below 80 C, operate it and the guide in a cooler spot, and if you're on a convection-cooled guide, consider the fan-cooled type.
What does the E20 fault code mean?
E20 indicates an open circuit in the light guide connection. Verify the guide is properly seated at the rear panel connector; if the fault persists the guide may need replacement.
Avoid ESD and never hot plug at the rear connectors, both can cause this fault.
What does the E30 fault code mean?
E30 indicates a short circuit in the light guide connection. Check the connector seating at the rear panel; a persistent E30 usually means the light guide needs replacement.
What error codes can the SkyBeam show?
Three: E20 (light guide open circuit), E30 (short circuit), and E40 (overheat). Each appears in the affected channel's display line and is also reported over RS-232 fault feedback.
Where do fault codes appear?
In the affected channel's row on the LCD. Faults also assert the ERROR output on terminal 20 for your PLC and are reported through the RS-232 fault-feedback message.
Unit is completely dead and the power switch isn't lit?
Check that both ends of the power cord are fully inserted (or swap in a known-good cord), then verify the wall outlet delivers 100-240 VAC within 10% and the facility breaker is on. If both check out, the unit needs factory service, contact us.
How do I check my power source?
Test the wall outlet for 100-240 VAC plus or minus 10% and confirm the facility circuit breaker hasn't tripped. The SkyBeam's wide-range supply accepts 47-63 Hz single-phase power worldwide.
Could the power cord be the problem?
Yes, verify both ends are fully seated in the wall outlet and the rear IEC receptacle, and inspect for damage. A replacement cord is P/N UV4047 if yours is defective.
I suspect an internal fault, can I fix it myself?
No, never open the enclosure; there are no user-serviceable parts and high voltage is present. Contact us and we'll arrange diagnosis and repair at the Uvitron factory under an RMA.
The foot switch doesn't fire my channel, why?
Check the wiring first: red wire to that channel's input terminal (1, 2, 4, or 5 for CH1-CH4) and white wire to common terminal 3. Then confirm the channel isn't set to CLOSE and the system isn't stopped via Stop/Run.
A channel shows CLOSE and won't fire?
CLOSE means that channel is deliberately disabled. Enter the operating parameters (momentary Setup press, key on, system stopped) and change the channel's mode to A, M, or ST, then save with Enter.
A second pedal press won't stop the exposure?
That's the LOCK system parameter doing its job, with LOCK ON, automatic-mode exposures can't be aborted by a second trigger. Set LOCK OFF if you want second-trigger aborts, or use Stop/Run to abort all channels.
The keypad won't let me change settings?
Two prerequisites: the Security key switch must be turned on (clockwise), and the system must be stopped with the Stop/Run button before entering Setup. Without both, parameter changes are blocked by design.
Holding Setup does nothing, what's wrong?
The system parameters page requires the security key to be on and the system stopped first. Press Stop/Run, confirm the key is turned clockwise, then hold Setup for more than 3 seconds.
RS-232 commands get no response?
Confirm the communication settings, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and check the cabling (TXD/RXD/GND, 15 m max, shielded). A missing response usually means the transmission format is wrong.
RS-232 replies with an exclamation mark?
A response containing ! instead of $ means the controller received the message but couldn't handle the command. Recheck the command packet contents, prefix, command byte, address, and data bytes, against section 7.6.
How do I test that the serial link works?
Send the string uvled by itself, a healthy connection returns a colon character (hex 0x3A). Once you see that, the full command set is available.
The timer counts up instead of down?
The channel is in Manual (M) mode, where the display increments while the trigger is held. Switch the channel to Automatic (A) mode for countdown-style timed exposures.
The LED shuts off when I release the pedal?
That's Manual mode behavior, the LED runs only while the pedal is held. If you want a press-and-release timed cure, set the channel to Automatic mode with your desired irradiation time.
Two channels fire together unexpectedly?
Check the LINK system parameter, linked channels trigger from any linked channel's signal or arrow button. Set LINK OFF on channels that should respond only to their own trigger.
Exposures abort randomly mid-cure?
An intermittent emergency-interlock circuit is the usual suspect, check the terminal 11/12 wiring and any E-stop or guard-switch contacts for looseness. Also confirm stray second triggers aren't arriving with LOCK set to OFF.
My light guides run hot, what should I do?
Keep guide working temperature under 40 C: improve airflow, keep 6 inches of clearance, move heat sources away, and keep cooling fins and fans dust-free. For continuous duty on a convection guide, switch to the fan-cooled type.
The system overheats inside my machine enclosure?
Give it smooth, clean cooling air, 6 inches of clearance on all sides, no dust or vapor accumulation on fans or fins. Repeated E40 faults in an enclosure almost always trace back to restricted or heated airflow.
My PLC sees the ERROR signal as inverted?
Use the ERRN system parameter: the default (ERRN OFF) asserts ERROR when a fault occurs, while ERRN ON inverts it to signal during normal operation. Match it to your PLC's expected logic.
The READY signal logic looks backwards?
Adjust the RDYN system parameter: default (RDYN OFF) asserts READY when exposure is not in progress; RDYN ON inverts it to assert during exposure. Pick whichever your automation expects.
Parts cure differently between channels?
Verify each channel's power, mode, and time match, the COPY system parameter can clone one channel's settings to the others. Then compare tip output with a radiometer, since lens condition and LED age differ per guide.
The timer ran but the part isn't fully cured?
The dose was too low: raise UV power, lengthen the time, move the tip closer, or clean the lens. Check the adhesive datasheet for the required energy, and verify actual delivered intensity with a radiometer.
The light looks dim, is the unit faulty?
Not necessarily. LEDs emit a very narrow wavelength band, so the bluish light can appear deceptively weak to the eye while still being high-power UV. Judge output with a radiometer, never by eye, and never look at the tip directly.
The fan gets louder during cures, is that normal?
Yes, fan speed automatically increases as LED temperature rises during exposure to regulate temperature, then eases off afterward. No action needed.
The LCD shows solid blue blocks at power-on?
That's normal, the display shows four rows of blue blocks during initialization, which takes about 4 seconds, before the four channels' operating parameters appear.
What is the buzzer telling me?
The buzzer beeps for system events as feedback. If it's unwanted on your line, set the BUZZ system parameter to OFF, it doesn't affect any protection functions.
My PLC signal doesn't trigger the channel?
Check the input wiring, SIG to the channel terminal and COM to the grounded common, using a contact closure or open-collector output. Then review the LOW parameter, which sets whether a momentary or continuous signal is expected.
My outputs won't drive my stack light?
The signal outputs are rated just 10 mA each at 5-24 VDC, drive a PLC input or relay, not a lamp directly. If you use the internal 12 V supply on terminal 22, keep total load under 100 mA.
The display never comes on at all?
Follow the power path: rear switch on, cord seated at both ends, outlet live at 100-240 VAC with the breaker on. If the rear switch still won't illuminate, it's an internal issue, contact us to arrange factory service.
Everything stopped and channels won't restart?
The Stop/Run button aborts exposure on all channels and must be pressed again before the system will restart. If that doesn't do it, check the emergency interlock circuit on terminals 11 and 12.
My SkyBeam arrived damaged or missing parts?
Inspect the carton on arrival and report damage to the carrier right away, then contact us about any damaged or missing items so we can make it right. Keep all packaging in the meantime.

Who handles repairs beyond user maintenance?
We do the coordinating, contact us and we'll arrange factory service with Uvitron International, the manufacturer, under an RMA number. Warranty units are repaired or replaced at no charge within the 2-year period.
Is it ever OK to open the controller to troubleshoot?
No. High voltage and stored energy are present inside, never remove the sheet-metal cover, and note that broken tamper-proof seals void the warranty. All troubleshooting steps in the manual are external; anything deeper is factory service.
