Curing UV Cationic (Epoxy) Adhesives
UV-cure epoxies cure by a cationic mechanism that is not quenched by oxygen, so they finish tack-free in open air. Low shrinkage and good chemical resistance make them a choice for optics, electronics encapsulation, and demanding bonds.
How It Cures
Cationic cure continues (dark cures) after the light is removed and is not oxygen-inhibited, giving a hard, tack-free surface. It typically wants the shorter UV bands to initiate, and is sensitive to humidity and some contaminants.
Through a substrate: Initiates best with shorter UV (around 365 nm), so a substrate that blocks short UV works against it, cure in open air or through a UV-transparent path.
