Curing UV Acrylate Adhesives
The workhorse of UV bonding, fast-curing free-radical acrylics used for tacking, structural bonds, and general assembly. They cure in seconds across the UVA/visible bands, with the specific band set by the photoinitiator package.
How It Cures
Acrylates cure rapidly but their exposed surface is subject to oxygen inhibition, which can leave a thin tacky skin in open air. Cure band depends on the initiator, many run at 365 nm, but plenty are tuned to 395/405 nm.
Through a substrate: Cure directly (open air) or through a substrate that transmits the initiator’s band, longer bands pass through glass and polycarbonate; 365 nm does not.
A broad-spectrum SunSpot 2 cures any acrylate regardless of its band, and its intensity overwhelms surface oxygen inhibition faster. On a single, known-band line, a matched SkyBeam channel is the lower-maintenance pick.
