Wire Staking & Coil Termination with UV
A jumper wire or coil lead that flexes will eventually fatigue and fail. Staking it with a dab of UV adhesive locks it to the board or bobbin in one to two seconds, faster and cleaner than epoxy that has to sit, and stronger against vibration than hot-melt.
Staking adhesive cures the instant it sees enough UV, so a lead is immobilized as fast as you can trigger the source. A concentrated spot puts the energy exactly on the stake dot without heating nearby components.
The SunSpot 2’s intensity gives a one-to-two-second stake cure, and its broad spectrum handles any staking adhesive. A 5 mm guide places the spot precisely on the dot.
Step by Step
- 1 Dispense the stake dot. Place UV staking adhesive where the lead meets the board or bobbin, bridging the wire to the surface.
- 2 Hold the wire in position. Keep the lead where you want it locked. The cure sets in seconds, so you are not holding for long.
- 3 Spot-cure the stake. Bring the 5 mm guide close and expose for one to two seconds. The dot hardens and the lead is fixed.
- 4 Add stakes along long runs. For a long or high-vibration lead, place several stakes along the run rather than one large blob, small stakes cure fully; big beads skin over.
Common Pitfalls
- One big blob instead of several small stakes, a large bead cures skin-first and stays soft inside.
- Staking a lead under tension, relieve strain first so the stake isn’t fighting a spring load.
- Missing the wire-to-surface bridge, the stake has to grab both the lead and the substrate to actually immobilize it.

Can I stake several leads at once?
